Ken Ya, Ya Ken
POMEGRANATE. EARL GREY. YUZU.
Is there anything more exotic than pure dead brilliant guid Kenyan Coffee. Ya Ken? Indeed, we do know! Picked from the Nyeri County that is renowned for its significant contribution to Kenya's coffee production - it stands out among other coffee-producing regions in the country. This picturesque area lies nestled between the majestic Mt Kenya and the Aberdare ranges, located just to the east of the Great Rift Valley.
In the cup there is a gorgeous syrupy, sweet and sour pomegranate molasses hit. Fruit driven we also found complex citrus notes that were reminiscent of pomelo and Japanese yuzu. Bittersweet fruitiness. A supreme candidate for a gorgeous filter style coffee, the finish offers delicate tannic Earl grey florals. Scoring a lofty 88 with the SCA [ Speciality Coffee Association ] at origin we knew this coffee deserved its place in the Unorthodox special cabinet. A sensory treat.

The Full Story
Our name is Scottish poetry in motion. Curiously, slightly palendromic in nature and an anagrammatic take on our Scots dialect. Quite frankly, this is a Kenyan coffee don’t you know! The literary device pays homage and understanding to the fact that we cannot roast incredible coffee without working back to the phenomenal farms that meticulously grow and harvest speciality grade arabica beans.
Nyeri’s landscape and climate provide exceptional conditions for growing coffee. Its deep red volcanic soils, abundant rainfall, and mild, warm temperatures work in harmony to nurture beans of outstanding quality.
Similarly, without passionate roasteries and baristas pushing the boundaries on flavour extraction, farms would struggle to demand a premium price for their tireless work. Great coffee requires all the cogs to be working together. A splendid coffee marking the resolution and resolve from farm to brewing.
