It’s the Monday after Christmas and we’re getting back into the swing of things at Unorthodox Roasters. Some of you may have seen our TikTok about our morning routine, if not, then this post will give you a bit of an insight into how we like to start our day.
The first person that arrives at our UDX HQ switches on the water boiler and makes sure things are heating up ready for our first (or second!) cuppa of the day.
Our routine, for most of us, begins before we even step foot in the cafe. Making that morning V60 before we arrive at work is the perfect mindful moment to start the day. So when we get into work, half of us go for our decaf coffee, Dee Calf and the other half go for one of our caffeinated picks. This varies from day to day depending on what we think is tasting the best at any moment (we're loving a bit of Wee Cracker right now) or if we have any new coffees roasted. Our mugs are lined up under the brew bar and our day is off to a great start.
You may be surprised that we’re not all caffeine addicts and tend to only have around 2 to 3 coffees a day! Although the novelty of amazing coffee can be too enticing for newbies to the team who can easily go through more in the day. (I would say I was a culprit of not knowing when to stop!) It is then time for breakfast...it’s either bran flakes or bran flakes! All jokes aside we do love a bran flake at UDX HQ or some of our classic Avo on Toast. Sometimes we get the luxury of eating all together although we're often interrupted by the morning Sainsbury's delivery.
It's then time for the cafe team to lay out some of the amazing cakes we get delivered daily and prepare the food for the day whilst the back of house team sort through emails. By 10ish we’ve usually got into the groove of things whether that's starting a mega roasting session, getting our online orders sorted, dealing with wholesale requests and letting customers come through the door.
